SEO: Your Domain Name

SEO: Your Domain Name

A few tips about your domain name:

The first one, which we often recommend, is: renew your domain name not for one year, but for at least 3 to 5 years. This will improve your standing with Google, as it will be clear you have a long-term project.

If you have a domain included with your hosting, contact us: we’ll take care of buying it for you for the desired period.

Buy the same domain with different extensions to better protect your domain name.

For example, if you have a .fr domain, also get .com, .org, .net, .info, .pro, or even .ue to be safe.

However, check that the brand isn’t already registered with a trademark and logo protection body (INPI in France).

A foreign group or company that owns your domain name as a trademark could contact you to release the domain, which would be pretty silly. If that happens, don’t hesitate to reach out so we can help you move your site to another domain.

So we also recommend protecting both your domain name AND your brand with the relevant authorities.

Remember to update your articles, but above all, do not delete the older ones! This advice also applies to portfolios.

Because that triggers 404 errors, and Google HATES that!

Likewise, for your products, don’t disable the ones that are running out of stock and will no longer be offered. Just remove them from the catalog!

That way, the linked URL will still exist, and Google will be happy to link to your content. Isn’t online life great?

In the same spirit, remember to name your image files using your domain name, plus one or two keywords describing what’s in the photo.
